Our story as a Foundation began in 2006 but our scientific activities started well before and include 15 years of close cooperation with Nobel laureate Rita Levi-Montalcini.
Our purpose has always been to develop research projects in the field of Life Sciences, aiming at excellence and innovation, in partnership with universities, national and international research centers, companies. Our infrastructure is constantly under development to meet higher and higher technological standards. At the same time we focus on human resources as our main asset and support the professional growth of young talented researchers.

We believe that scientific research has to be independent and guided by strong ethical principles; this is why our development is self-funded and each step is taken after a careful check of financial feasibility.
We put Responsible Research and Innovation (RRI) principles in practice and are actively engaged in the contrast to climate change and the promotion of circular economy. Data integrity is one of the pillars of our approach to research: all our daily internal workflows have been structured according to strict trackability standards. Strong relations on a national and international basis are another pillar of our way of doing research.
IRET Foundation manages the Bologna-Ozzano ‘Rita Levi-Montalcini’ Technopole and hosts laboratories of the Emilia-Romagna High Technology Network.
